Information

This rare pair of wall-mounted sideboards was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by the renowned cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen in Denmark during the 1950s. The design reflects Wegner’s early modern cabinetmaking approach, combining minimalist geometric clarity with precise detailing and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship.

Both sideboards are constructed from teak, displaying a warm reddish-brown tone with subtle grain variations. They share a rectangular form with sliding doors equipped with circular recessed pulls. A distinctive feature is the raised lip along the taller upper edges of the tops, a functional and aesthetic detail characteristic of Wegner’s early cabinetry. Internally, one of the sideboards is outfitted with a built-in turntable and specialized storage compartments for vinyl records, including vertical dividers and a suspended inner drawer. The other sideboard is more minimal in configuration, designed for general storage behind its doors.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is widely recognized as a leading figure in Danish modern design, known for his innovative contributions to seating and cabinetry. Educated as a cabinetmaker and at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Wegner collaborated extensively with Johannes Hansen, a pioneering Copenhagen cabinetmaker. Their partnership during the 1940s and 1950s emphasized limited, high-quality production and masterful craftsmanship, and these sideboards represent that formative period.

Both pieces remain in very good original condition, with teak surfaces showing only minor signs of age, such as light surface marks and a consistent patina that enhances their vintage character.

The larger sideboard measures 128.5 cm in width, 40 cm in depth, and 51 cm in height (approximately 50.6 x 15.7 x 20.1 inches). The smaller sideboard measures 84 cm in width, 48 cm in depth, and 51 cm in height (approximately 33.1 x 18.9 x 20.1 inches).
