Arne Vodder easy chairs
This rare pair of easy chairs was designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Ivan Schlechter in Denmark in 1953. The chairs are crafted in rosewood with their original black leather upholstery. The design exemplifies Vodder’s signature balance between sculptural form and refined restraint, where organic curvature meets precise craftsmanship characteristic of early Danish modernism.
The frame, executed in solid rosewood, displays a deep, warm tone and subtle grain pattern that contrasts elegantly with the smooth, slightly glossy leather. The softly contoured seat and backrest are designed for ergonomic comfort, while the low stance and gently flared armrests create a harmonious silhouette. The original leather, naturally aged, retains a rich patina and supple texture, reflecting both quality and authenticity.
Arne Vodder (1926–2009), trained under Finn Juhl, was among the foremost Danish designers of the mid-20th century. His furniture is celebrated for its refined simplicity, natural materials, and thoughtful detailing. Vodder’s collaboration with Ivan Schlechter—a Copenhagen-based cabinetmaker renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship—resulted in some of the most sophisticated and collectible Danish seating designs of the 1950s.
Produced by Ivan Schlechter, these chairs embody the meticulous cabinetmaking tradition that distinguished Danish furniture production during the postwar era. Each joint, proportion, and curve demonstrates the unity between form and function that defined Scandinavian modernism.
The pair remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of use and an attractive patina consistent with age. The leather upholstery has softened and developed natural creasing, while the rosewood frames maintain their original luster and stability.
