Information

This rare flower table was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The piece captures the elegance and material experimentation typical of Jakobsson’s early design work, combining functional modernism with refined craftsmanship.

The structure consists of a slender, black-lacquered metal frame supporting three removable copper planters. The contrast between the warm, reflective tone of the copper and the matte, industrial quality of the metal frame creates a balanced composition—both decorative and architectural. The proportions are delicate yet sturdy, with each planter resting neatly within its geometric support. Over time, the copper has developed a natural patina, adding depth and authenticity to the material.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) is best known for his lighting designs, where he explored the interplay of light, shadow, and material texture. His work for Markaryd reflects a broader Scandinavian sensibility that valued craftsmanship and functional simplicity. This flower table exemplifies that approach, translating the same sensitivity for form and material into a domestic object of sculptural beauty.

The piece remains in excellent vintage condition, showing subtle signs of use and patina consistent with age.
