Folke Jansson easy chair
This rare easy chair model Tellus was designed by Folke Jansson and produced by SM Wincrantz in Sweden during the 1950s. The design reflects the refined organic modernism of the Scandinavian post-war era, characterized by sculptural form and human-centered comfort. Its rounded and enveloping shape is balanced by the tapering black lacquered legs, each ending in a small brass ball foot, adding a delicate detail that lightens the overall visual weight.
The chair has been recently reupholstered in a high-quality wool fabric, combining a neutral beige tone for the main body with a contrasting mustard yellow seat cushion. The coarse yet soft wool texture enhances the organic form while providing a tactile and durable surface. The yellow cushion introduces a subtle vibrancy to the composition, highlighting the curvature of the seat and the flow of the continuous backrest.
Folke Jansson, an influential Swedish designer of the mid-20th century, was known for his modern yet expressive furniture that emphasized both sculptural presence and ergonomic integrity. The Tellus model exemplifies his ability to merge aesthetics and function, with proportions that feel both dynamic and inviting. Produced by SM Wincrantz, the piece demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail typical of Swedish furniture making of the period.
This chair is in excellent vintage condition with only minor signs of use. Its restoration was performed with sensitivity to original materials and proportions, maintaining the authentic appearance of the design while renewing its comfort and longevity.
