Carl Malmsten cabinet
This rare cabinet model Lillbo was designed by Carl Malmsten and produced by Carl Löfving & Söner in Sweden during the 1950s. Executed in walnut and beech, the piece reflects Malmsten’s renowned commitment to craftsmanship, proportion, and natural materials. As one of Sweden’s most influential furniture designers, Malmsten’s work embodies the essence of Scandinavian design, prioritising functionality, quality, and timeless aesthetics.
The cabinet features a rectangular body with two doors revealing adjustable shelving inside, set above a bank of four drawers with distinctive square wooden pulls. The piece rests on a refined base with tapered legs, emphasising Malmsten’s preference for elegant yet sturdy construction. The warm walnut veneer is complemented by the lighter tones of beech, creating a subtle contrast that enhances the cabinet’s mid-century character.
This example is in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, preserving its original finish and integrity. A fine representation of Scandinavian mid-century cabinetmaking, the Lillbo model exemplifies Malmsten’s vision of furniture as both functional object and enduring work of art.
