Information

This rare three-seater sofa, model V11, was designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Holger Christiansen in Denmark during the 1960s. The piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and sculptural balance characteristic of Wikkelsø’s work, where comfort, organic form, and honest materials are unified in a distinctly Scandinavian expression.

The sofa is executed in rosewood and upholstered in original cognac brown leather. The design features an enveloping form with slightly flared armrests and a deep, supportive seat. The tapered rosewood legs are angled to enhance the visual lightness of the structure, providing a contrast to the substantial, softly contoured cushions. The patinated leather displays a rich tonal variation, with natural creases and wear that accentuate the authenticity and age of the piece.

Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) was one of Denmark’s leading modernist designers, known for his ability to balance sculptural silhouettes with ergonomic precision. His furniture, often produced in collaboration with renowned Danish manufacturers, reflects the organic modernism movement that prioritized natural materials and human-centered design. Holger Christiansen’s production further underscores the high standard of Danish cabinetmaking during the mid-20th century, noted for precision joinery and material integrity.

The sofa remains in good vintage condition, showing an appealing patina and wear consistent with use and age. The leather retains suppleness, and the structure is stable and well-preserved, highlighting the longevity of its craftsmanship.

Dimensions: width 230 cm (90.6 inches), depth 81 cm (31.9 inches), height 66 cm (26 inches), seat height 40 cm (15.7 inches).
