Information

This rare Swedish modern side or console table was produced in Sweden during the 1940s and embodies a transitional blend of neoclassical influence with emerging modernist tendencies. The table’s design reflects refined craftsmanship and material contrast typical of high-quality Swedish furniture from the early 20th century.

The table has a circular top made from richly grained mahogany veneer, arranged in a symmetrical starburst or radial pattern that converges at the center. This pattern accentuates the natural complexity of the wood grain and provides a decorative focal point to the otherwise restrained composition. The tabletop has a slightly raised rim around the perimeter, lending both structural definition and a nod to classical table design.

Supporting the top are four gently curved legs crafted from beech, finished in a lighter honey tone that contrasts with the deeper reddish-brown of the mahogany. The legs taper downward in a subtle cabriole-inspired profile, softening the overall appearance and enhancing the vertical rhythm. The use of beech for the legs and mahogany for the top showcases a deliberate material hierarchy and an interest in textural and chromatic interplay.

While the piece is not attributed to a specific designer, its construction quality and stylistic clarity suggest it was made by a reputable Swedish cabinetmaker. The 1940s in Sweden marked a period of stylistic transition, where furniture designs began to shift from decorative traditionalism toward functional modernism, often retaining artisanal techniques and noble materials.

The table remains in good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. The veneer surface shows a well-preserved finish with some subtle patina and minor surface marks, while the beech legs exhibit slight traces of wear but maintain structural integrity and finish.

Dimensions are 110 cm in diameter and 64.5 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 43.3 inches in diameter and 25.4 inches in height.
