Flush mounts
This rare pair of flush mount ceiling lamps was produced in Sweden, most likely by ASEA, during the mid-20th century. The design is characterized by a restrained functionalism combined with high-quality materials, which is typical for Scandinavian lighting of the period. Each lamp consists of a cylindrical brass fixture that supports a conical shade in white opaline glass. The brass has developed a warm, natural patina over time, while the glass diffuses the light softly and evenly.
The form is simple and efficient, with a focus on clarity of function and refined proportions. The lamps are secured with small brass fittings, keeping the opaline shades firmly in place. When illuminated, the glass emits a warm, diffused glow that creates an even spread of light across the ceiling and into the surrounding space. This balance of brass and opaline glass reflects the Scandinavian approach of combining natural materials with timeless functionality.
Though the designer is unknown, the quality of the execution and the stylistic features suggest production by ASEA, one of Sweden’s leading electrical and lighting manufacturers in the 20th century. ASEA collaborated with several designers and produced a wide range of modernist lighting fixtures that remain highly regarded for their craftsmanship and functionality. The company was a central force in shaping Swedish lighting design, particularly in the postwar period.
Both lamps are in excellent condition, showing only minor signs of age consistent with careful use. The brass surfaces retain their patina, while the opaline glass remains intact and free from cracks or chips. Their condition and preserved original materials make them rare examples of Scandinavian mid-century ceiling lighting.
