Ceiling lamp

This ceiling lamp, model 1253, was produced by Valinte Oy in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp is executed entirely in brass and is defined by a wide, shallow bowl-shaped shade with a centrally suspended cylindrical diffuser element. The surface of the shade is punctuated with a regular pattern of small perforations, allowing points of light to pass through and creating a soft, diffuse ambient glow when illuminated. The lamp is suspended from a straight brass stem and finished with a matching ceiling canopy, maintaining a consistent material expression throughout.

The brass surface shows a rich and varied patina, with tones ranging from warm gold to darker brown and greenish oxidation. The patina is uneven and clearly developed over time, with visible wear, surface scratches, and discoloration consistent with long-term use. These traces of age contribute to the lamp’s character and document its history rather than detract from its integrity. Structurally, the lamp remains sound, and the overall condition is considered good, with heavy signs of usage typical for a brass fixture from this period.

Valinte Oy was an important Finnish lighting manufacturer active in the mid-20th century, known for producing technically refined luminaires with a strong emphasis on material quality and functional design.
