Fritz Kurz ceiling lamp

A very rare and large ceiling lamp designed by Fritz Kurz and produced by Orrefors in Sweden during the 1940s. This sculptural piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and artistic ambition of Swedish glassmaking in the mid-20th century, combining elegant proportions with intricate organic detailing.

The lamp is composed of a central frosted glass bowl with finely executed vertical incised lines, creating a soft diffusion of light. Surrounding the shade is an elaborate framework of clear glass elements, formed as stylized, leaf-like structures with pronounced texture and curvature. These elements rise gracefully around the bowl, giving the fixture a dynamic, almost botanical character while maintaining symmetry and balance. The central stem is executed in clear glass with subtle vertical fluting, adding further refinement and continuity to the overall design.

The metal components, including the ceiling canopy and structural mounts, are made of nickel-plated metal with a softly aged patina that complements the clarity of the glass. The combination of materials creates a harmonious contrast between the cool transparency of the glass and the understated sheen of the metal. It remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use. There are small nicks to the glass consistent with its age, but no significant damage, and the overall impression is very well preserved.
