Gustav Bertelsen dining chairs
This rare set of eight dining chairs was designed and produced by Gustav Bertelsen in Denmark in 1955. The chairs are crafted in solid mahogany with a warm, medium-brown tone and feature their original black leather upholstery. The design is marked by gently curved backrests and subtly contoured seats, both padded and upholstered for comfort. The rounded backrest supports and softly tapered legs give the chairs a refined and well-balanced silhouette typical of Danish mid-century design.
The original leather shows an even, rich patina, with variations in tone ranging from deep black to warm brown, the result of decades of natural ageing. The leather surfaces display minor marks and creasing consistent with careful use, contributing to their authentic vintage character. The mahogany frames are in good vintage condition, with only small signs of wear and a well-preserved finish that retains its depth and lustre.
This set represents the understated elegance and craftsmanship of mid-century Scandinavian furniture, with functional proportions and timeless material choices. Dimensions are 47 cm wide, 49 cm deep, and 79 cm high, with a seat height of 46 cm (18.5 in × 19.3 in × 31.1 in, SH 18.1 in).
