Peder Moos trolley
This rare and exceptional trolley was designed and handcrafted by the Danish master cabinetmaker Peder Moos, produced in Denmark during the mid-20th century. The piece is constructed from a refined walnut frame, demonstrating Moos’ distinctive craftsmanship and his dedication to organic, sculptural forms. The trolley features two shelves made of raw glass with a subtly undulating texture, creating a dynamic interplay between light and surface. The wooden structure is reinforced with carefully executed joinery and wood fittings, emphasizing Moos’ meticulous attention to detail even in the smallest elements. The trolley stands on four elegantly tapered legs, each fitted with small brass casters that provide both mobility and balance.
Peder Moos (1906–1991) was a singular figure in Scandinavian design, renowned for his uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship and material integrity. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Moos eschewed industrial production, choosing instead to handcraft each piece with a profound respect for wood. His work often showcases exposed joinery, organic curves, and carefully considered proportions, resulting in furniture that borders on sculptural art. Trained initially as a cabinetmaker and later studying architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Moos’ career was marked by a consistent focus on fine woods and an individualistic approach to technique rather than prevailing design trends.
This model was presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark in 1942. The trolley is signed “Moos, 1948,” and encapsulates his philosophy of artisanal construction combined with elegant modern aesthetics. Due to his limited output and hands-on production, Moos’ works are extremely rare and highly prized by collectors and museums, representing the apex of Scandinavian craftsmanship.
The trolley measures 71.5 centimeters in width, 42 centimeters in depth, and 57 centimeters in height, embodying a balanced scale and timeless design.
