Bent Møller Jepsen stool
This three-legged stool was designed by Bent Møller Jepsen and produced by Sitamo Møbler in Denmark in 1961. The stool’s frame is crafted from solid teak, exhibiting a medium-dark tone with warm reddish-brown hues and straight grain patterns typical of the wood. The original circular seat cushion, upholstered in black leather, remains intact. The cushion is divided into four quadrants by inward diagonal stitching that converges at the center, creating a slightly domed surface and a tailored appearance. The leather shows natural patina with visible wear and creasing consistent with age and use. The cushion rests freely atop the wooden frame.
The teak frame is composed of three square-profile legs arranged in an equilateral triangular layout. This configuration provides a stable yet visually light support, while the geometric and asymmetrical leg placement reflects early 1960s Danish modern design principles. The overall silhouette is minimal and sculptural, emphasizing both form and function.
Bent Møller Jepsen, though less widely known, was a Danish designer who made important contributions to mid-century furniture through functional and refined pieces. His collaboration with Sitamo Møbler, a Danish manufacturer active in the postwar period, produced a number of small-scale, high-quality modernist furnishings, primarily in hardwoods such as teak and oak.
This stool exemplifies Scandinavian modern design through its simplicity, honest use of materials, and attention to subtle detail. It remains in good vintage condition, with appropriate wear on the leather and minor marks on the wood surface. The dimensions measure 49 centimeters in width, 47.5 centimeters in depth, and 36 centimeters in height (approximately 19.3 by 18.7 by 14.2 inches).
