David Rosén side table
This rare side table, model Berga, designed by David Rosén and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden in 1938, is a fine example of early Scandinavian modernism. Crafted from solid pine, the table features an oval top supported by a sculptural central base made of thick, curved wooden panels intersecting at the center. A secondary circular shelf below adds both functional storage and structural stability. The legs extend outward in graceful arches, contributing to an organic, balanced silhouette.
The warm honey tone of the pine highlights the natural grain and texture of the wood, blending rustic charm with refined craftsmanship. David Rosén’s design seamlessly integrates traditional woodworking with the clean, functional lines characteristic of the modernist movement. Nordiska Kompaniet, as a leading Swedish manufacturer, played a significant role in advancing Scandinavian design by emphasizing durability and elegant simplicity.
Measuring 73 cm wide, 55 cm deep, and 59.5 cm high (28.7 x 21.7 x 23.4 inches), the table remains in good vintage condition, its patina adding to the piece’s authenticity and timeless appeal.
