Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamp
This very rare table lamp, model B-138, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s, illustrates the designer’s mastery of material and light manipulation. The lamp features a brass base with a circular footprint supporting a slender vertical stem. Atop this sits a tiered silk fringe lampshade, whose cascading layers softly diffuse the light, creating a warm and inviting glow that enhances the lamp’s sculptural form.
Jakobsson was renowned for his innovative approach to lighting design, often experimenting with materials and techniques that produced atmospheric, indirect illumination. The silk fringe is a signature element in many of his lamps, adding tactile texture and dynamic movement that animates the light source and the surrounding space.
Over time, the brass has developed a natural patina, enriching the material’s depth while preserving the lamp’s original character. The silk fringe lampshade remains well preserved, maintaining its shape and delicate texture. The lamp measures 38 cm in diameter and 62 cm in height (15 x 24.4 inches), combining refined craftsmanship with an expressive aesthetic typical of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design.
