Alfred Altherr sideboard
This exceptionally long sideboard was designed by Alfred Altherr and produced by K.H. Frei Freba Typenmöbel in Switzerland during the 1950s. The construction combines solid and veneered maple, finished in a warm, light tone, contrasted by a black lacquered wooden base and trim elements. The design is distinguished by its extended width and symmetrical layout, featuring three compartments with vertical sliding doors that provide generous storage capacity.
The sliding doors are accented with recessed black handles integrated seamlessly into the design, contributing to the sideboard’s minimalist aesthetic. Behind each door, modular storage compartments incorporate vertical and horizontal dividers, suited for organizing records, books, or household items. The cabinet rests on a recessed black lacquered plinth with tapered legs, which slightly elevate the piece while maintaining a sense of visual stability and grounding.
