Information

This group of mid-century table lamps was designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden during the 1960s. Each lamp features a sculptural bottle-shaped base crafted from deep olive green glass. The glass surface is smooth and glossy, exhibiting subtle tonal variations and internal striations indicative of a mouth-blown production technique. A horizontal gold band near the shoulder of the base provides a contrasting accent. The glass transitions seamlessly into brass bulb holders equipped with integrated switches. The sockets bear the original Ateljé Lyktan manufacturer’s marks, including the model number 794 B, confirming provenance.

Presented without shades, the lamps have an elegant, elongated silhouette characterized by a narrow neck and rounded shoulders that create a soft, organic balance. The combination of brass and colored glass is emblematic of Scandinavian lighting design from this period, where simple geometric forms were enhanced through material contrasts and refined surface finishes.

Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was a prominent figure at Ateljé Lyktan, serving as the company’s artistic director from 1964. His design approach was marked by a pragmatic yet expressive sensibility, merging industrial production methods with sculptural forms and materials. Under Pehrson’s leadership, Ateljé Lyktan became a significant force in Swedish modern lighting, known for its innovative use of metal, glass, and plastics to achieve both aesthetic and functional objectives.

These lamps exemplify Scandinavian modernist principles of functional elegance, emphasizing material clarity, balanced proportions, and a subtle dialogue between transparency and reflection. They function effectively as both table lamps and sculptural objects within mid-century or contemporary interiors.

Each lamp measures 50 cm in height and 16.5 cm in diameter (approximately 19.7 by 6.5 inches). The condition is very good, showing only minor wear consistent with age, including light patina on the brass and a few small internal bubbles and swirls within the glass.
