Information

This rare daybed, model EJ142 known as Waves, was designed by Anne-Mette Jensen and Morten Ernst and produced by Erik Jørgensen in Denmark in 1998. The piece represents a late 20th-century exploration of sculptural seating, where furniture is approached as a continuous, flowing form rather than a composition of separate elements.

The design is defined by its undulating, wave-like silhouette, formed as a single, continuous surface that rises and falls along its length. The structure is executed in a black fiberglass frame, giving the piece both structural rigidity and the ability to achieve its complex, organic geometry. The upholstery consists of original black leather, stretched and tailored over the sculptural form in several joined sections that follow the curvature of the design. The surface reads as smooth and fluid, with subtle transitions between seat, back, and reclining areas.

Anne-Mette Jensen and Morten Ernst are known for their experimental approach to furniture design, often working at the intersection of industrial production and sculptural expression. With the Waves model, the designers challenged conventional ergonomics and typologies, resulting in a piece that emphasizes form, movement, and visual impact while still offering functional seating and reclining comfort. Erik Jørgensen, as producer, was instrumental in realizing such complex designs, known for high-quality craftsmanship and innovative manufacturing techniques within Danish furniture production.

The daybed is in fair vintage condition, showing clear signs of use and age. The leather displays visible wear, patina, and areas of damage, particularly along edges and contact surfaces. These marks reflect the material’s aging process and long-term use, and they contribute to the piece’s overall character while clearly documenting its history. The fiberglass structure remains stable, and the form is intact.

The dimensions are approximately 145 cm in width, 190 cm in depth, and 61 cm in height, with a seat height of about 24 cm. This corresponds to roughly 57.1 inches wide, 74.8 inches deep, and 24.0 inches high, with a seat height of approximately 9.4 inches.
