Arne Jacobsen desk
This rare desk was designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in 1955. The piece combines a striking rosewood top with a minimalist steel base, exemplifying Jacobsen’s refined approach to modernist furniture design. The rosewood surface is beautifully grained, with a rich pattern that emphasizes the natural character of the wood, framed by softly rounded edges that give the top a subtle elegance.
The desk is supported by four slender, square-profile steel legs, each braced with a diagonal support bar, giving the structure stability while maintaining a light and open aesthetic. The legs are finished with rosewood-capped feet, a refined detail that ties the base visually to the top. Beneath the top are two discreet black drawers, adding practical storage without detracting from the clean lines of the design.
Arne Jacobsen is widely recognized as one of the masters of Danish modernism, known for his holistic design approach that spanned architecture, furniture, and objects. His collaboration with Fritz Hansen resulted in some of the most iconic furniture designs of the 20th century. This desk is a fine example of his ability to blend functional clarity with sculptural lightness.
The piece remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only minor signs of use and a light patina on the steel consistent with age. It stands as an important representation of mid-century Scandinavian design, suitable for both private and professional interiors.
