Arne Vodder armchairs
This rare set of armchairs, model 62A, was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbler in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs exemplify Vodder’s refined interpretation of Danish modernism, where sculptural sensitivity, natural materials, and precise craftsmanship come together in a balanced and understated design.
The frames are constructed from solid rosewood, displaying the richly grained, dark-toned hardwood characteristic of premium Scandinavian furniture from the mid-century period. The design features subtly curved armrests that taper outward, flowing organically from the vertical supports to create a continuous silhouette. The front legs are rounded and slightly conical, while the rear legs are gently raked, contributing to the chairs’ structural lightness and visual elegance.
Both seat and backrest are upholstered in the original black leather, forming smooth, ergonomically curved surfaces that offer comfortable support. The leather has developed an appealing patina over time, with creasing and wear consistent with age, especially on the seat cushions and lower back panels. The upholstery is tightly fitted to molded forms and seamlessly integrated with the frame, with no visible fasteners disrupting the clean lines.
Sibast was a leading Danish manufacturer in the mid-20th century, renowned for collaborations with designers such as Vodder, Piet Hein, and Helge Sibast. The model 62A armchairs reflect Sibast’s dedication to meticulous craftsmanship and Vodder’s focus on functional elegance, organic form, and material integrity.
Each chair measures 62 cm wide, 57 cm deep, and 80 cm high, with a seat height of 45 cm, approximately 24.4 inches wide, 22.4 inches deep, 31.5 inches high, and a seat height of 17.7 inches. The chairs remain in very good vintage condition with well-preserved leather and structurally sound rosewood frames.
