Information

This rare bureau was designed by Arne Vodder and produced by N.C. Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. Constructed from teak, the piece is distinguished by its striking blue lacquered drawer fronts. The bureau features six drawers arranged in an alternating pattern of sculptural teak and blue-painted surfaces, creating an organic, wave-like motif. Each drawer is crafted with dovetail joints, demonstrating precise workmanship. The bureau stands on four slightly tapered teak legs, lending it a balanced and elegant profile.

Arne Vodder was a renowned Danish architect and furniture designer known for his refined, functionalist approach. His designs often combined natural wood with bold color contrasts, exemplified here in the interplay between the warm teak and deep blue lacquer. Vodder’s collaborations with high-end manufacturers like N.C. Møbler resulted in pieces celebrated for their exceptional quality and innovative aesthetics.

The bureau balances visual impact with practicality, offering ample storage within a durable solid teak frame. The contrast between the natural wood grain and the lacquered drawers reflects mid-century Scandinavian design principles that embrace organic materials alongside playful, modern elements.

The bureau measures 84 cm in width, 45 cm in depth, and 100.5 cm in height (33.1 x 17.7 x 39.6 inches). It is in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear on both the lacquer and wood surfaces consistent with its age.
