Arne-Wahl Iversen desk
This rare writing desk, model 56, was designed by Danish furniture designer Arne Wahl Iversen and produced by Vinde Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1961. Executed in rosewood, the desk showcases the refined craftsmanship and material quality that define mid-century Scandinavian furniture. Its compact and functional form is enhanced by clean lines, tapered legs, and thoughtful details that reflect Iversen’s modernist approach to domestic design.
The desk is elevated by its finely balanced proportions and elegant silhouette, combining a minimalist frame with a practical work surface. The upper section features a raised back with a small drawer and open storage compartment, offering space for writing tools and documents, while the main body incorporates two large drawers with recessed handles for a streamlined appearance. The piece stands on slender, slightly splayed legs joined by cross-stretchers, contributing to both stability and visual lightness.
Arne Wahl Iversen (1927–2016) was known for his functional and timeless furniture, often produced in small series for leading Danish manufacturers during the golden age of Scandinavian design. Vinde Møbelfabrik, where this piece was produced, was a respected Danish workshop celebrated for its meticulous woodworking and production of finely detailed rosewood furniture in the 1950s and 1960s.
This desk has been completely restored and remains in excellent vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use. It is an iconic example of Danish mid-century craftsmanship, merging practicality with sculptural elegance.
