Astrid Sampe carpet

This Scandinavian modern wool carpet, designed by Astrid Sampe and produced by Kasthall in Sweden during the 1960s, exemplifies a minimalist and refined approach to textile design. Handwoven in pure wool, the carpet features a uniform beige tone that creates a subtle monochromatic expression. Astrid Sampe (1909–2002) was a leading Swedish textile designer, notable for her innovative contributions during the mid-20th century. As head of Nordiska Kompaniet’s textile department from 1937 to 1972, she collaborated with many prominent figures in Scandinavian design. While best known for her printed textiles, Sampe also influenced woven carpets through her work with Kasthall, a respected Swedish manufacturer renowned for handwoven and machine-made rugs.

Kasthall, established in 1889 in Kinna, Sweden, is recognized for exceptional craftsmanship and partnerships with leading designers, playing a vital role in Swedish textile history and continuing to operate today.

This carpet is in good vintage condition, showing light signs of use with minor wear consistent with age. There are no visible tears, holes, or discoloration that detract from its overall integrity or presentation.
