Information

This pair of glass vases was designed by Bengt Orup and produced by Johansfors Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1950s. The vases display an elongated, tapered form, featuring a narrow neck that rises gracefully from a broader base. They are crafted from transparent glass with a subtle green tint that gradually fades into clear near the base, creating a smooth and elegant gradient effect.

Both vases are hand-blown using traditional Swedish glassmaking techniques, emphasizing the purity and clarity of the material. Their proportions are refined and slender, enhancing their sculptural presence. The narrow openings indicate their function as single-stem vases, yet their elegant forms allow them to serve as decorative objects in their own right.

Bengt Orup (1916–1996) was a leading Swedish glass designer of the mid-20th century. Known for his modernist approach, he worked at Johansfors Glasbruk, where he developed a series of thin-walled, sophisticated glass pieces that balanced functionality with artistic expression. His work is characterized by clean lines and a restrained color palette, reflecting key principles of Scandinavian design.

Johansfors Glasbruk, established in the late 19th century, was recognized for its high-quality glass production. During the mid-century period, with designers like Orup, the company earned a reputation for innovative and timeless modernist glassware.

The vases are in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear. They measure 10 centimeters in diameter at the base, with heights ranging from 35.5 to 42 centimeters (approximately 3.9 inches in diameter and 14 to 16.5 inches in height).
