Bertil Herlow Svensson sculpture

Rare sculptural work titled Construction, designed and produced by Bertil Herlow Svensson in Sweden in 1967. Executed in aluminium, the piece exemplifies the geometric precision and experimental material approach characteristic of Scandinavian modernist sculpture during the 1960s.

The work is composed of interlocking diagonal planes constructed from parallel aluminium rods, creating a rhythmic and visually dynamic composition. The structure’s open framework allows light and shadow to interact with its surfaces, emphasizing the interplay between form, transparency, and repetition. Its carefully balanced geometry produces a sense of movement despite the rigidity of the material.

Herlow Svensson, known for his architectural and sculptural investigations, explored modular and spatial relationships through industrial materials. Construction reflects his interest in mathematical harmony and the tension between structural order and sculptural freedom.

The surface of the aluminium retains a soft patina and subtle traces of age, consistent with the period. The sculpture remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use.
