Oil painting by C. Göran Karlsson, dated 1996 and signed “CGK96” in the lower-right corner. The vertically oriented composition is constructed entirely from geometric planes, with repeated triangles, elongated wedges, diamonds and irregular polygons arranged across a loosely defined grid. The painting is presented in a recessed, light grey painted frame.

The palette combines saturated red, crimson, orange and yellow with darker passages of burgundy, brown and near-black. Muted taupe, ochre and grey provide intermediate tones. Strong contrasts between adjacent color fields emphasize the angular structure, while variations in proportion and direction prevent the repeated forms from becoming mechanically uniform. Horizontal divisions stabilize the composition, counterbalanced by numerous vertical and diagonal movements.

The work belongs to the tradition of Concretism, a form of nonrepresentational abstraction in which color, line and geometric shape function as independent pictorial elements rather than as representations of the visible world. Concretism developed from early twentieth-century geometric abstraction and remained influential in Scandinavian postwar art. Although executed considerably later, this 1996 painting continues that formal approach through its controlled geometry, flat spatial organization and emphasis on relationships between color fields.

The oil medium produces predominantly opaque surfaces, with subtle tonal and textural variations remaining visible within several sections. These differences soften the otherwise precise geometry and indicate the manual painting process. The warm palette and repeated pointed forms create a rhythmic visual structure with alternating areas of compression and openness.
