Information

This rare illuminated wall mirror was designed by Emil Stejnar and produced by Rupert Nikoll in Austria during the 1950s. Originally commissioned for Café Segafredo, the piece exemplifies Stejnar’s distinctive fusion of lighting, ornamentation, and reflective surfaces. The mirror features a softly curved rectangular shape framed by a sculptural border composed of white lacquered metal and molded acrylic floral elements. The three-dimensional floral motif consists of layered, star-shaped blossoms crafted from translucent white acrylic, arranged in dense, rhythmic rows around the perimeter.

Concealed lighting is integrated behind the floral structure, producing a diffused ambient glow when illuminated. This backlit construction enhances both the decorative frame and the reflective quality of the central mirror, creating a radiant, floating effect especially visible in low-light environments. The materials—lacquered metal, cast acrylic, and mirror glass—are characteristic of Stejnar’s work, illustrating his approach to blending industrial manufacturing techniques with delicate ornamental design.

Emil Stejnar (born 1939) is an Austrian designer, silversmith, and astrologer, best known for his mid-century lighting and decorative fixtures produced by Rupert Nikoll. His designs are noted for combining strict geometric compositions with floral or crystalline motifs, establishing a recognizable signature style closely linked to post-war Austrian interiors. Rupert Nikoll, based in Vienna, was a leading lighting manufacturer of the era and collaborated extensively with Stejnar on a diverse range of lamps, chandeliers, and mirrors sought after for both private and commercial settings.

This mirror is in very good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. The acrylic floral elements are intact and well preserved, and the electrical components remain functional. The lacquer finish exhibits minimal surface wear.

Dimensions measure 68 cm wide, 68 cm high, and 10 cm deep (approximately 26.8 x 26.8 x 3.9 inches).
