Eric Wärnå table lamps
This rare pair of table lamps, model B52, was produced by EWÅ in Värnamo, Sweden, during the 1950s. Designed by Eric Wärnå, the lamps are exemplary of Scandinavian mid-century design, blending sculptural form with practical functionality and a bold use of color and material contrast.
Each lamp features a conical lampshade made from red lacquered metal with a textured surface finish. The interior of the shade is white, designed to direct and diffuse light efficiently. The shades are mounted on curved brass arms that allow for adjustable angling, secured to the base by a pivoting joint. The brass arms have developed a warm, slightly oxidized patina over time, consistent with their age.
The base of each lamp is made from red-lacquered cast metal, shaped into a distinctive tripod form with three tapered legs that curve outward. This design evokes the aerodynamic and atomic-age aesthetics that were prevalent in Scandinavian and international postwar design. Each base integrates a small white plastic push-button switch at the top, adding a functional and minimalist touch to the overall design. The combination of playful form and structural stability reflects the functional sculpturalism that characterized Swedish lighting production during the 1950s.
EWÅ Värnamo Armaturfabrik, based in southern Sweden, was active during the mid-century period, producing a variety of innovative lighting fixtures that were known for their high quality and distinct design sensibility.
The dimensions of each lamp are 12.5 cm in width, 24 cm in depth, and 33 cm in height (approximately 4.9 x 9.4 x 13 inches). The pair is in well-preserved original condition, showing light signs of wear and age-appropriate patina, further enhancing their authenticity and vintage appeal.
