Ernst Kühn dining chairs
This rare set of dining chairs and armchairs was designed by Ernst Kühn and produced by Lysberg, Hansen & Therp in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the 1950s. The ensemble includes six dining chairs and four armchairs, showcasing refined craftsmanship and elegant proportions characteristic of mid-century Danish furniture design.
The frames are crafted from solid rosewood, notable for its deep brown tone and rich grain pattern. The rear legs extend fluidly into the backrest, which features a gently curved and slightly tapered form, creating a harmonious silhouette. The backs are fitted with handwoven cane panels that provide a light and transparent visual quality, balancing the solid mass of the wooden frame.
The seats have been newly reupholstered in a natural beige textured fabric, providing a soft contrast to the darker wood tones. The combination of rosewood, cane, and neutral upholstery exemplifies the Danish modern emphasis on natural materials, tactile surfaces, and understated luxury.
Lysberg, Hansen & Therp, appointed purveyors to the Danish royal court (Kongelig Hofleverandør), were known for their collaboration with prominent designers and their commitment to quality. Their label, affixed beneath the seat, authenticates this exceptional set.
The chairs are in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age. The cane and upholstery have been fully restored, and the rosewood frames retain a warm patina.
