Finn Juhl desk
This rare desk is model BO-69, also known as the Nyhavn desk, designed by Danish architect and designer Finn Juhl in 1953. Produced by Bovirke, the piece reflects Juhl’s hallmark approach to modernist furniture, combining functionality with sculptural elegance. The desk is executed in teak with a warm reddish-brown tone and sits on a slender, browned brass frame, which gives the piece a light and floating appearance. The metal frame incorporates cross-bracing for stability and visually contrasts with the wooden top, enhancing the sense of balance and proportion.
The tabletop is generously proportioned and features a folding leaf extension, allowing the desk to expand from 170 cm to 224 cm in width. This flexibility made it a practical solution for both domestic and office environments in the mid-century period. The suspended drawer unit provides three drawers with curved, sculptural fronts, lacquered in soft shades of cream, pale green, and muted orange, adding a playful yet refined color accent. An additional organizer box in matching design sits on top of the desk, offering further storage and organization possibilities. The use of lacquered drawer fronts is a characteristic detail of Juhl’s work, combining craftsmanship with a subtle artistic sensibility.
The desk is in good vintage condition with a well-preserved teak surface, showing a beautiful patina that highlights the grain of the wood. The brass frame and hardware display a natural, aged coloration consistent with the piece’s age, adding depth and character. Minor signs of wear are present, as expected from a carefully used piece of its period, without detracting from its visual impact or structural integrity.
Dimensions are 170 cm wide (224 cm when extended), 85 cm deep, and 75 cm high (66.9 / 88.2 x 33.5 x 29.5 inches). The organizer box measures 41.5 x 35 x 24 cm (16.3 x 13.8 x 9.4 inches).
