Finn Juhl easy chair
This rare easy chair with matching stool, model Bwana, was designed by Finn Juhl and produced by France & Daverkosen in Denmark during the 1960s. The design showcases Juhl’s signature sculptural aesthetic and focus on organic forms, blending elegant craftsmanship with a high degree of comfort.
The frame is crafted from solid teak, featuring distinctive curved armrests and precisely tapered legs, emblematic of the Danish modern woodworking tradition. The chair’s backrest is gently reclined and extended with a headrest, enhancing its ergonomic qualities. Original black leather upholstery covers both the seat and backrest, providing a sophisticated contrast to the warm teak tones. The matching stool mirrors the same materials and design language, offering additional comfort and versatility.
Finn Juhl was a prominent figure in Danish modern design, known for his innovative furniture inspired by organic and sculptural forms. His collaboration with France & Daverkosen produced pieces that balance functionalism with an artistic and expressive approach.
Both chair and stool are in good vintage condition, displaying minor wear consistent with age. The chair measures 86 cm in width, 88 cm in depth, and 91 cm in height (approximately 33.9 by 34.6 by 35.8 inches), with a seat height of 39 cm (15.4 inches). The stool measures 63 cm in width, 47 cm in depth, and 41 cm in height (about 24.8 by 18.5 by 16.1 inches).
