Fog & Mørup table lamp

This rare and flexible table lamp is attributed to Vilhelm Lauritzen and produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark. The lamp is constructed entirely from brass, with a softly curved stem leading to an organically shaped shade. Its form is both functional and sculptural, representing the Danish modernist approach to lighting design where utility and elegance are combined.

The lamp features a domed shade with a smooth surface, supported by a gently arched brass arm fixed to a round brass base. The proportions are compact yet generous enough to provide directional task lighting, making it suitable as a desk or reading lamp. Its adjustable structure allows for controlled light distribution, characteristic of Lauritzen’s designs, which were often developed for both private interiors and architectural commissions. The brass surface has developed a natural patina, with visible signs of use that testify to its age and authenticity, adding depth and warmth to the material.

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was a leading Danish architect and designer, recognized as a pioneer of Danish functionalism. His architectural works, such as Copenhagen Airport and Radiohuset, were complemented by lighting and furniture designs that reflected his emphasis on functionality, simplicity, and modern materials. Fog & Mørup, one of Denmark’s most important lighting manufacturers of the 20th century, collaborated with several leading designers and became known internationally for their innovative and high-quality production.

The lamp is preserved in good vintage condition, with patina and surface marks consistent with age and use. These qualities highlight its history while maintaining its functional and aesthetic integrity.

It measures 16 cm in width (approximately 6.3 inches), 43 cm in depth (approximately 16.9 inches), and 47 cm in height (approximately 18.5 inches). This piece is a fine example of mid-century Danish lighting design, where refined craftsmanship and functional elegance intersect.
