Folkform candlestick
The candlestick titled “Candle Collage” was designed by Folkform and produced in Sweden in 2010 as part of a limited edition. Cast in solid bronze, this piece embodies a brutalist design ethos, evident in its geometric forms and industrial aesthetic. The composition features interconnected rectangular and cubic elements, each with recessed circular openings designed to hold candles. A centrally positioned raised candleholder introduces a vertical contrast to the otherwise linear arrangement, adding visual dynamism.
Folkform, founded by Chandra Ahlsell and Anna Holmquist, is a Swedish design studio recognized for its experimental engagement with materials and a conceptual approach to industrial production. Their work frequently explores the boundary between handcrafted and mass-produced objects, challenging conventional ideas of design and manufacturing. Candle Collage exemplifies this philosophy by blending architectural and sculptural influences into a functional everyday object.
This candlestick is part of a limited edition of 25 pieces, with this example numbered 17. The base is stamped with the Folkform signature and edition number, verifying its authenticity. Over time, the bronze surface has developed a natural patina that enhances the piece’s raw, industrial character.
The candlestick measures 34 cm in width, 10.5 cm in depth, and 16 cm in height (13.4 by 4.1 by 6.3 inches). It is in excellent condition, with the patination consistent with the natural aging process of the bronze material.
