Glas Mäster mirror

This rare circular wall mirror was produced by Glas Mäster in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The design is a refined example of mid-century Scandinavian decorative arts, combining natural materials with minimalistic form and precision craftsmanship.

The mirror features a solid pine frame with a warm honey tone and pronounced vertical grain, crafted into a perfectly round profile. The frame’s cross-section reveals the layered construction and gentle inner bevel, creating a visually soft transition to the glass. The pine retains its natural texture and color, lightly aged and well-preserved, exhibiting only minor signs of use consistent with age.

A defining element of this mirror is its integrated leather hanging strap, which attaches to a brass ring at the top. The strap is looped through the outer rim of the frame and secured with brass hardware, allowing the mirror to hang freely while introducing a subtle yet functional decorative detail. The brass and leather components have developed a mild patina, enhancing the authenticity of the piece and reflecting its vintage status.

Glas Mäster of Markaryd was a regional Swedish glass and mirror producer active during the mid-20th century, contributing to the broader Scandinavian design movement with objects that emphasized utility, honest materials, and understated elegance. This mirror, labeled with the original manufacturing tag, was marketed as “Spegel 103” with a 40 cm diameter and made using maskinglas, a term used for high-quality mirror glass.

This example is in good vintage condition and retains its original components. It is suitable for use in both functional and decorative contexts, such as entryways, bedrooms, or modern interiors where warmth and subtle craftsmanship are desired.
