Göran Malmvall dining chairs
This set of eight dining chairs, designed by Göran Malmvall and produced by Svensk Fur in Sweden during the 1940s, represents a classic example of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship. The chairs are constructed from solid pine, a material chosen for its durability and warm natural grain. The design features a sculpted seat, elegantly tapered legs, and a curved backrest supported by three vertical slats, offering both stability and comfort.
Göran Malmvall (1917–2001) was a Swedish furniture designer known for his work with solid wood. He was particularly associated with Svensk Fur, a Swedish company specializing in high-quality pine furniture. Malmvall’s designs often reflected the principles of functionalism, combining traditional woodworking techniques with modern aesthetics.
Svensk Fur was known for producing well-crafted wooden furniture that embraced the natural characteristics of pine. Their pieces were designed with simplicity and practicality in mind, aligning with the broader Scandinavian design movement that prioritized functionality, craftsmanship, and timeless appeal. The chairs are in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age.
