Gunnar Myrstrand sofa
This three-seat sofa was designed by Swedish architect and designer Gunnar Myrstrand and produced by Källemo in Sweden during the 1960s. Myrstrand, known for his architectural precision and keen sense of proportion, collaborated extensively with Swedish manufacturers to create furniture that balances elegance and practicality. This sofa embodies the Scandinavian modernist ethos, combining expressive natural materials with clear, rational construction.
The frame is crafted from solid rosewood, showcasing vivid grain patterns with a warm reddish-brown tone and characteristic dark streaks. The design highlights exposed joinery and organic shaping, particularly evident in the rear vertical slats and the gently curved top rail, which together provide structural support and visual rhythm. The legs are round and taper subtly toward the floor, contributing to the piece’s refined yet grounded presence.
The seat and back cushions are upholstered in the original black leather, which remains supple and shows a natural patina with creasing consistent with age and use. The leather has developed a glossy sheen typical of high-quality vintage upholstery. The seating arrangement includes three loose cushions on both the seat and backrest, each with deep button tufting, offering both comfort and visual structure.
The sofa is in good vintage condition, exhibiting gentle wear on the leather and minor surface marks on the wood frame, all appropriate for its age. The frame is structurally sound, and the cushions retain their shape and support.
Dimensions are 180 cm wide, 75 cm deep, and 74 cm high, with a seat height of 41 cm (approximately 70.9 x 29.5 x 29.1 inches, with a seat height of 16.1 inches).
