Gunnar Nylund bowl
This ceramic bowl, model ARO, was designed by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1960s. The form features Nylund’s signature organic asymmetry, where the gently sloping rim creates a dynamic yet balanced silhouette. The surface is finished in a softly speckled glaze in earthy beige and grey tones, showcasing the natural variation and texture typical of Scandinavian studio ceramics of the era.
Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a pioneering Swedish ceramic designer whose long collaboration with Rörstrand defined much of the company’s mid-century identity. His works are celebrated for their sculptural simplicity, restrained glazes, and modernist harmony between form and material.
This example remains in good vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age. It represents the understated sophistication and craftsmanship that characterize Nylund’s work and Swedish mid-century design.
