Gunnar Nylund vase
This ceramic vase, model ARZ, was designed by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1960s. The vase features a tall, elegant form with a split, flaring opening that creates a sculptural V-shaped profile. Its surface is finished in a matte brown glaze with subtle tonal variations that highlight the organic contours and soft texture of the clay. The restrained coloration and refined proportions give the piece a quiet, architectural presence.
Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a leading figure in Scandinavian ceramic design, best known for his long collaboration with Rörstrand. Throughout his career, he explored modernist forms through natural materials and muted glazes, often emphasizing the interplay between shape and surface. The ARZ model reflects his mature period, where functional minimalism met sculptural sophistication.
The vase remains in good vintage condition, showing small signs of use consistent with age. It represents the timeless elegance and craftsmanship of mid-century Swedish ceramics.
