Information

This rare flush mount ceiling lamp was designed by the Swedish designers Gunnar & Ulla Eklöf and produced by Corona Belysningskultur in Sweden during the 1940s. The design features a domed opaline glass diffuser surrounded by a delicately crafted metal frame, lacquered in a soft cream tone. The metal structure is adorned with floral and botanical motifs executed in perforated lacquered metal in tones of red and green, creating a vibrant yet refined decorative element. The floral designs are stylized and playful, with dotted textures and wirework outlines adding depth and visual lightness to the composition.

The condition of the lamp is good, with smaller signs of usage consistent with its age. The lacquered metal frame retains much of its original finish, though there are minor surface marks and some wear to the painted floral elements, characteristic of well-preserved vintage lighting. The opaline glass shade is intact and provides a warm, diffuse illumination when lit, allowing the floral metalwork to cast subtle shadows on the surrounding surfaces.

Gunnar & Ulla Eklöf were Swedish designers active in the mid-20th century, known for their whimsical and nature-inspired lighting designs. Their work with Corona Belysningskultur exemplified the post-war Swedish decorative arts movement, combining functional lighting with playful, organic motifs. Corona Belysningskultur was a smaller Swedish lighting manufacturer that specialized in decorative lamps and fixtures, often collaborating with designers to create joyful and approachable design objects that brought color and character into everyday interiors.

Stylistically, this lamp reflects the mid-century Scandinavian decorative tradition, where functional objects were often imbued with elements of playfulness and craftsmanship. The combination of opaline glass and perforated metal flowers and leaves evokes a sense of lighthearted naturalism, making it both a functional lighting fixture and a decorative ceiling sculpture.

The dimensions of the lamp are 41 cm in diameter and 14 cm in height. In inches, this corresponds to approximately 16.14 inches in diameter and 5.51 inches in height.
