H. Brockmann-Petersen armchair
This very rare armchair was designed by the Danish architect H. Brockmann-Petersen in 1956 and produced by cabinetmaker Louis G. Thiersen & Søn in Denmark. The chair is crafted from solid teak with a handwoven cane seat, combining natural materials with refined joinery. The construction emphasizes a sculptural balance between the curved backrest and the slender, tapered legs, characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design.
The armchair features a rounded, embracing backrest in solid teak, which flows seamlessly into the arm supports. The seat is executed in woven cane, suspended within the frame to provide both lightness and comfort. The structure is defined by clean lines and organic curves, reflecting Brockmann-Petersen’s approach to modern Danish furniture, where craftsmanship and functional clarity meet an understated elegance. The design also shows the influence of cabinetmaking traditions, as the piece was executed by a master craftsman rather than through industrial production.
The chair is presented in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use. The teak has developed a rich, warm patina, while the cane seat shows some minor wear and areas of damage, consistent with age. These details contribute to the authenticity of the piece and reflect its mid-20th century origin.
