Halldor Gunnløgsson ceiling lamps

These rare ceiling lamps were designed by Halldor Gunnløgsson and produced in Denmark, representing a minimalist yet expressive approach to mid-century lighting. The construction combines patinated brass and white plastic, materials that contrast in both tone and texture, highlighting the functional elegance typical of Scandinavian modernism. The lamps are cylindrical in form, with a white plastic body acting as a diffuser for soft, ambient light.

Above the plastic shade, brass structural elements extend vertically, giving the lamp a sense of vertical extension and architectural presence. Below, a series of concentric brass rings are visible through the diffuser, subtly reinforcing the geometry and providing a layered visual effect when viewed from underneath. These brass elements are naturally aged, displaying a warm patina and surface wear that is consistent with the lamps’ vintage origin and enhances their character.

The white plastic diffuser offers a modern contrast to the brass and is slightly translucent, enabling gentle light diffusion without harsh glare. The material remains in good condition with minor age-related wear but retains its original form and color, providing a clean visual counterpoint to the darker metal elements.

The lamps are in good vintage condition. The brass exhibits oxidation, small surface abrasions, and tonal variation, all of which align with expected aging of untreated brass surfaces. The plastic diffusers show minor wear but are intact and functional. These signs of use contribute to the authenticity and period integrity of the pieces.

Halldor Gunnløgsson, active in both architecture and product design, was a central figure in Danish modernism. Known for his restrained aesthetic and dedication to material honesty, he applied his architectural mindset to smaller-scale design with precision and clarity. His lighting designs, though less widely known than his architectural projects, reflect the same principles of proportion, material contrast, and refined simplicity. These lamps are an embodiment of that philosophy—utilitarian in purpose yet sculptural in form.
