Hans-Agne Jakobsson flower table
This rare flower table was designed by Swedish lighting and furniture designer Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The piece exemplifies Jakobsson’s ability to balance refined materials with functional form, presenting a utilitarian object with sculptural elegance. The table consists of a black lacquered iron frame holding three removable square copper containers. These containers were intended for plants or flowers, allowing them to be arranged indoors in an elevated and organized display.
The design is minimalistic yet practical, with thin iron legs and horizontal framing that creates a light, airy structure. The warm, reddish tone of the copper contrasts beautifully with the matte black frame, and over time the copper has developed a natural patina, particularly visible on the interior surfaces, which adds depth and character to the piece. The containers can be easily removed for cleaning or rearranging, enhancing the table’s functionality.
This example is in good vintage condition with signs of age and use, including surface marks and oxidation to the copper, which is consistent with its age and purpose. The iron frame is structurally sound and retains its original finish with minor wear, underscoring the piece’s authenticity.
Dimensions are 74 cm wide, 22.5 cm deep, and 50 cm high (29.1 x 8.9 x 19.7 inches).
