Hans-Agne Jakobsson table mirror

This rare table mirror was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. Constructed entirely from brass, the mirror features a double-sided circular frame mounted on a pivoting axis. One side holds a standard mirror, while the reverse side is fitted with a magnifying glass, offering dual functionality for both grooming and detailed inspection.

The design of the mirror is characterized by its clean, circular geometry and minimal ornamentation. The reflective surface is enclosed within a slim brass ring, supported by an open side frame. This frame is attached to a central post, which is mounted on a flat, round brass base, providing both structural stability and a balanced visual weight. The pivoting mechanism is controlled by two brass side knobs, allowing easy tilting between the two mirror surfaces. The brass has developed a naturally aged patina, with darkened areas and oxidation that are consistent with use and age, contributing to the piece’s vintage character.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a renowned Swedish lighting and furniture designer, celebrated for his use of brass and organic materials. While he is most widely known for his lighting designs, Jakobsson also applied his design sensibility to a select number of decorative and functional accessories, such as this mirror. The piece demonstrates his refined sense of proportion, restraint, and material-driven aesthetic.

The mirror remains in good vintage condition, with visible patina and surface marks on the brass. Both the mirror and magnifying glass are free from damage, ensuring full functionality.
