Henry Rosengren Hansen bar stools

This is a set of four bar stools, model 43, designed by Henry Rosengren Hansen in 1960 and produced by Brande Møbelindustri in Denmark. The stools exemplify the principles of Danish modernism, with an emphasis on lightness, functionality, and elegant craftsmanship. Each stool is constructed from solid teak, showcasing a warm, even-toned wood grain that has developed a rich patina over time. The teak is smoothly finished, with rounded edges and a finely detailed backrest that curves to support the lower back.

The seats are upholstered in the original deep reddish-brown leather, which has aged beautifully with signs of usage including minor creases and tonal variations. The leather displays a supple surface with a natural gloss, evidencing its quality and careful maintenance over decades. A notable detail is the black footrest protector integrated into the front stretcher, designed to preserve the wood from wear, which also adds a subtle visual contrast.

The design features a strong yet airy profile, with tapered legs splaying outward slightly to enhance stability while maintaining a slender silhouette. Cross-stretchers connect the legs and provide additional structural support without disrupting the visual lightness of the composition. The craftsmanship reflects the high standards associated with Brande Møbelindustri, a company known for producing fine furniture for some of Denmark’s most innovative designers of the mid-century period.

Henry Rosengren Hansen (1912–1974) is known for his clear structural logic and precision in design, often blending fine joinery with organic and minimalist forms, traits that are evident in these stools. His work remains highly regarded within the field of collectible Danish furniture.

Each stool measures 35.5 cm in width, 40 cm in depth, and 87 cm in height, with a seat height of 68 cm. These dimensions correspond approximately to 14 inches in width, 15.7 inches in depth, 34.3 inches in height, and a seat height of 26.8 inches. The condition is very good with signs of natural wear to both the leather and wood, consistent with vintage use.
