Information

This is a rare and complete set of eight dining chairs, model 39, designed by Henry Rosengren Hansen and produced by Brande Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1960. The chairs exhibit hallmark characteristics of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship, with a focus on refined proportions, tactile materiality, and structural elegance.

Each chair is constructed from solid rosewood, distinguished by its deep, warm tones and expressive grain patterns. The woodwork is finely sculpted, with a gently tapering backrest frame and a subtly curved seat rail that gives the profile a softened, organic quality. The backrest is gently inclined and framed around an upholstered black leather insert that matches the original leather seat, both of which exhibit age-appropriate patina and wear consistent with vintage use. The original black leather has developed a surface sheen and visible creasing, contributing to the authenticity and visual richness of the set.

Henry Rosengren Hansen (1924–2005) was a Danish furniture designer whose work gained recognition during the golden age of Danish modern design. Known for his clarity of line and harmony of form, Hansen often collaborated with established cabinetmakers such as Brande Møbelfabrik, where he explored functional yet expressive seating designs. Model 39 is among his most refined creations, integrating traditional joinery with a modernist sense of minimalism and material honesty.

Brande Møbelfabrik was an important Danish furniture manufacturer during the mid-20th century, working closely with leading designers of the period. Their pieces are marked by a dedication to craftsmanship, use of high-quality materials, and a design language that reflects the understated elegance of Scandinavian modernism.

The set remains in good vintage condition, structurally sound with signs of age-related wear, such as scuffs, patina on the leather, and minor wood surface marks. These elements affirm the authenticity of the set and its well-preserved original features.

Each chair measures 47 cm in width, 47 cm in depth, and 75.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 43 cm. These dimensions correspond approximately to 18.5 inches wide, 18.5 inches deep, 29.7 inches high, and a seat height of 16.9 inches.
