Information

This sideboard was designed by Henry Rosengren Hansen and produced by Brande Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. It stands as a distinguished example of Scandinavian mid-century cabinetmaking, merging functional modernism with refined craftsmanship. The piece is crafted entirely from solid and veneered rosewood, showcasing deep reddish-brown tones with expressive linear grain patterns and natural contrasts that highlight the wood’s character.

The front is composed of four doors with integrated carved wooden handles that are symmetrically arranged and slightly recessed, reinforcing the clean horizontal lines central to Rosengren Hansen’s minimalist design language. The door panels display a consistent vertical grain orientation, complementing the overall restrained aesthetic.

Inside, the sideboard is thoughtfully organized. Open compartments with adjustable shelves are positioned at each end, while the central section contains drawers featuring dovetail joinery, some of which are lined with green felt. These drawers are made from solid oak with rosewood fronts, combining durability with warmth. The cabinet rests on six tapered, faceted rosewood legs that are inset slightly from the body, creating a floating appearance and architectural balance while maintaining visual lightness and stability.

The sideboard remains in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear typical of age and use. The rosewood has developed a rich, even patina, and all joints, doors, and drawers function smoothly, reflecting solid construction.

Henry Rosengren Hansen was active primarily in the mid-20th century and collaborated with leading Danish furniture manufacturers. His work is noted for geometric clarity, meticulous joinery, and harmonious proportions. Brande Møbelfabrik, based in central Denmark, earned a reputation for high-quality production and close collaboration with prominent designers during the golden age of Danish modern furniture.

The sideboard measures 240 centimeters in width, 47 centimeters in depth, and 79.5 centimeters in height (approximately 94.5 by 18.5 by 31.3 inches).
