Ib Kofod-Larsen armchair
This very rare armchair, model Elizabeth, was designed by the distinguished Danish designer Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by the Danish cabinetmaker Christensen & Larsen during the 1950s. Recognized for its exceptional craftsmanship and refined form, this model stands as one of Kofod-Larsen’s most celebrated and collectible creations within the canon of Scandinavian modernist design.
The chair’s frame is crafted from richly grained rosewood, exhibiting a deep, warm tone that accentuates the inherent beauty of the material. The structure is both lightweight and robust, with subtly tapered legs and sculpturally contoured armrests that embody the organic and human-centered sensibility of Scandinavian modernism. A notable design feature is the brass support that connects the seemingly floating backrest to the main frame, an elegant and purposeful element that imparts a sense of visual lightness while enhancing the chair’s structural integrity.
The seat and backrest have been newly upholstered in premium black leather, which complements the dark hues of the rosewood and reinforces the luxurious yet understated character of the piece. The interplay between the polished rosewood and the smooth, matte leather surface underscores the chair’s timeless aesthetic. The condition of this armchair is excellent; the wooden components display only the slightest evidence of age-related wear, while the new upholstery is flawless.
Dimensions are as follows: width 70 cm (27.6 inches), depth 58.5 cm (23 inches), height 74 cm (29.1 inches). The seat height is 45 cm (17.7 inches), and the armrest height is 65 cm (25.6 inches).
