Ib Kofod-Larsen stool

This stool, model Siesta, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden. It represents the designer’s hallmark approach to Scandinavian modernism, combining understated elegance with structural clarity and material quality. Kofod-Larsen was known for his ability to blend comfort and minimalism, and the Siesta model exemplifies this balance in a compact, functional form.

The stool features a solid teak frame with a warm, reddish-brown tone and clearly defined grain patterns that enhance the natural appeal of the wood. The joinery is precise and subtly expressed, with softly rounded edges and gently tapering legs that contribute to the overall visual lightness and structural integrity. The frame retains its original finish and is in excellent condition, showing minimal wear.

The seat is upholstered in deep brown leather, which has developed a rich patina over time. The leather surface includes tufted details that not only enhance the aesthetic but also provide additional texture and comfort. The seat has a shallow curve, ergonomically shaped to offer support and softness. The patina on the leather reflects age and use, giving the piece authenticity and warmth without compromising its condition.

The proportions of the stool are compact, making it suitable as a standalone seating element or as a footrest in a mid-century interior. The combination of teak and leather creates a warm, tactile contrast that is characteristic of Scandinavian furniture from this period.

Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921–2003) was a Danish designer whose furniture designs often paired sculptural forms with luxurious materials. His work for Swedish and Danish manufacturers—particularly for OPE Möbler and Faarup Møbelfabrik—cemented his reputation as one of the leading voices of mid-century modern design in Scandinavia.
