Ingeborg Lundin vase

Rare large-scale glass vase or sculptural vessel designed by Ingeborg Lundin for Orrefors, Sweden. Designed in 1955, the piece is signed underneath “ORREFORS EXPO D 32-57 Ingeborg Lundin”.

The vase measures 33.5 cm (13.2 inches) in diameter and 38 cm (15 inches) in height. Its unusually generous proportions give the piece a distinctly sculptural presence.

Executed in clear glass, the design is reduced to an almost perfect spherical body, gently flattened at the base and drawn upward into a short, narrow cylindrical neck. The transition from the broad rounded body to the neck is particularly fluid, with the substantial thickness of the glass producing subtle optical distortions and reflections around the shoulders.

The extreme simplicity of the form places emphasis on the qualities of the material itself. Depending on its surroundings and the direction of light, the transparent body shifts between near invisibility and pronounced reflections, while the heavier areas of glass create delicate greenish tones along the lower edge. The restrained geometry is characteristic of the clarity and material sensitivity associated with postwar Scandinavian glass design.

The vase is in good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with age. There is visible coating or residue to the interior of the glass.
