Ingvar Hildingsson stool
This stool was designed and produced by Ingvar Hildingsson in Sweden during the 1980s. Crafted from jatoba wood, a dense and durable hardwood prized for its rich reddish-brown hue and fine grain, the stool exemplifies a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic. It features a stable three-legged construction supporting a circular seat with smooth, rounded edges for comfort.
The design is rooted in traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship, emphasizing simplicity, the use of high-quality materials, and functional form. The solid wood structure is assembled with visible joinery, highlighting the artisanal nature of the piece. The polished surface reveals natural variations in the wood grain and has developed a subtle patina over time, enhancing its character.
Ingvar Hildingsson is recognized for his expertise in Swedish woodworking, and this stool represents a rare example of his work. Markings and labels on the underside, including references to Kalmar läns slöjdare and the workshop in Rockneby, confirm its authenticity.
The stool measures 27 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height (10.6 x 15.7 inches).
